Film 011 - The White Ribbon (2009)

‘Das weiße Band - Eine deutsche Kindergeschichte'

Director - Micheal Haneke

This is the story of a small German farm estate, pre First World War, where a series of unfortunate events begin to overshadow what appears to be an idyllic community.

I have yet to see Michael Haneke’s Oscar winner ‘Amour’ and so came to this film knowing nothing of his work. It is cinematically beautiful and draws you into the mystery of the situation but may also leave you tearing your hair out in frustration. Films which don’t answer all the questions they pose leave me feeling somewhat ambivalent - annoyed and yet determined to work out the answers...

Classic scene – The shock of the initial 'accident'…
