Film 010 - Goodbye Lenin! (2003)

'Good Bye Lenin!'

Directed by - Wolfgang Becker

"The German Democratic Republic lives on -- in 79 square meters!"

The mother of an East Berlin family has a heart attack and goes into a coma just before the fall of the Wall in 1989. When she finally comes round again eight months later her son does everything he can to hide the truth from her so as to avoid another attack by recreating East Berlin and the GDR around her.

Not only a clever premise with some nice comic touches but also an interesting study of just how quickly East Berlin changed as Germany became a single nation once more.

Classic scene – The mother’s accidental visit to the ‘real’ world and the flying ‘Lenin’…
