Film 019 - 8½ (1963)

'Otto e Mezzo'

Director - Federico Fellini

"A picture that goes beyond what men think about - because no man ever thought about it in quite this way!"

Film director Guido is seeking some peace and quiet at a spa retreat while working on his next big picture but he is unable to escape his world, his past or the women from both.

Love this film to bits possibly because of the dream like elements and because reality and imagination blend together in Guido’s eyes. I'm obviously not alone in my admiration as he has influenced many film makers but most of all is the great Woody Allen. I suggest you follow a viewing of this film with a double bill of ‘What’s New Pussycat?' and 'Stardust Memories' to see just how much.

Classic Scene – Guido in his dream home, filled with the women he adores. I also love his childhood memories of the ‘wild woman’ on the beach - “Saraghina! Dance the rumba!”
