Film 020 - Hard Boiled (1992)

Original Title - Lat sau san taam

Director - John Woo

"As a cop, he has brains, brawn, and an instinct to kill."

Rebel cop 'Tequila' is out to crack the case of gun smuggling and arms dealing following the death of his partner. But in doing so he also has to face the fresh young Triad gangster Tony and work out just who's side he's on?

Found this to be a very dated. John Woo was hailed as being a director with a fresh eye for action movies and I've seen most of those that he made in American -'Face Off', 'MI:2', 'Broken Arrow' etc. However, I was never overly impressed by them and I was even less so by this. The film is just guns, guns and more guns, with a touch of jumping through the air and a soundtrack seemingly supplied by Kenny G!

Best thing that can be said is that it helped make Yun-Fat Chow a big name and go on to make better films - in particular 'Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon'. In my option if you want a good Chinese action film then I have only two words for you - Jackie Chan. But unfortunately none of his films made it onto the Big List (go figure). But there is still 'Way of the Dragon' to watch...

Best scene - No... no... sorry, no can't think of one... hang on... no I was right... nothing!
