Film 006 - The Host (2006)

Director - Joon-ho Bong

"You are what it eats"

As a mutant amphibian terrorises the Han riverside in Seoul, Korea, one dysfunctional  family defy the authorities and search for their missing child.

In at number 81 on the list  is this monster-movie that ticks all the right genre boxes. The film surprised me by also containing a fair amount of humour – sort of a cross between ‘Jaws’ and ‘Little Miss Sunshine’. But ultimately it is the the governments involved that look the fools and who beg the age old question as to which is in fact is the bigger monster – The Host or man? As the authorities prove more of a hindrance than a help it is left to the common people to dispose of the menace, with a medieval 'Peasant Vs. Dragon' look and feel...

Joon-ho Bong as writer / director looks to be one to watch. Let's see if he can make the tricky switch to English speaking cinema with his movie 'Snowpiercer' which comes out later this year with a big name cast attached.

Classic scene – First monster attack on the riverside picnickers…
