Film 002 - The Last Battle (1983)

'Le Denier Combat'

Director - Luc Besson

Sightly surprised to not see Luc Besson anywhere in the top 100. But then some of his greatest successes  have come in the shape of English speaking films ('Leon', 'The Fifth Element', 'The Transporter'). But still, no 'Subway'? No 'Nikita'? Or indeed this, his very first feature film.

'The Last Battle' is the story of 'The Man', a loner surviving in the desolation of  an apocalyptic catastrophe where amongst everything else survivors have lost the power of speech. In an attempt to escape his existence he journeys to a deserted city. However, he discovers that the city is occupied by two other men; referred to as 'The Doctor' and 'The Brute' (Jean Reno in his first collaboration with Besson).

Jean Reno - 'The Brute'
Bit of a cheat this as again not on the Big List but also although technically a FLF there is in fact virtually no dialogue.

Classic scene - The Brute's continued attempts to enter The Doctor's hospital home has a feel of Wile E Coyote about it but with an increasing sense of menace...
